People and the Willingness to Take Great Risks
I believe people are willing to take the big risks that they take for the adrenaline rush. They do it for the risk and the reward. Alex even admits he's an adrenaline junkie. I don't think I would ever be able to go through that adrenaline rush. Free soloing takes a lot of guts, determination and motivation. The type of qualities I do not have myself. I think that other people like to read about these incredible exploits because it's not something that you'd be able to see or read about every day. Not everybody would be able to go climb a 3,000-foot mountain free soloing. Other articles include people like JP Auclair and his skiing abilities, Danny Macaskill riding his bike in places normal people wouldn't dare set foot, Felix Baumgartner's jump from the stratosphere, the jump where Baumgartner broke the sound barrier without an aircraft, and Ben Saunders trying to walk across the North Pole. These people pull off incredible stunts that normal people didn't think was humanly possible. I couldn't ever attempt any of these stunts . These people are incredible enough to be someone else's idle.
