Owning a Business

The businesses that I went to were Dunn Bros Coffee, Hardee's, Botichelli's and The Silver Lining Creamery. I had three main questions that I asked the business owners. These questions included, what does it take to start a business? What are the pros and cons of starting your own business? What kind of business is the best to own? The answers to the first question were all relatively similar. The business owners all said that dedication and the want to start a business is crucial. You do not need a college degree to start a business, but it would definitely help you get your business up and running quicker and it could help with the management. The second question had various answers to it, but to sum it up in one answer, the pros in starting your own business include possibly making more money compared to someone who works for a boss, you are your own boss, you can hire other people to help, no one can fire you, you can put your own ideas to practice, and you can control every aspect of your business. The cons of starting your own business include having to take a large financial risk, likely have to work long and arduous hours, a lot of time is taken up by learning details of running a business, income may not be steady, you may have to undertake unpleasant tasks like firing someone or refusing to hire a friend, and learning new disciplines like filing and bookkeeping. All three owners had the same answer for this last question. They all said that a home-based business is the best kind of business to own. It is easier to manage compared to going into work to manage your business. It is also perfect for after you retire from regular work schedule. I don't think that I would be able to start my own business. I couldn't handle the overwhelmingness of being able to make sure my workers are doing their job along with managing checks, the work place, etc. etc.. I wouldn't want to have to worry about losing all of my money to a business that didn't become successful. I'll just stick to college and the military.
